Dear Friends of Life:
We have not had many opportunities for letters on a state-wide basis, but an important topic has emerged... supporting a bill that would require ultrasound information being made available prior to an abortion.
EXPLANATION PARAGRAPH (Five Minutes For Life and other groups)
The New Jersey Knights of Columbus have been able to get sponsors for proposed legislation that requires abortion providers to give women the opportunity to see ultrasound images of their unborn child prior to having the abortion. The women would not be forced to undergo the ultrasound test, but they must be provided with an opportunity to do so. All facilities that provide abortion or where practitioners refer patients for abortion, must have ultrasound equipment on site or provide access through other medical facilities. This is extremely important because women are making a life and death decision without knowing about “what” is being aborted. As of September 2009, Democrat and Republican sponsors have submitted bills in the New Jersey State Senate and Assembly. We will concentrate on the Senate this month. Our focus will be to contact every State Senator, requesting that they support S2800, known as the “Full Disclosure Ultrasound Act.”
For our new members, as you will see at the bottom of this page, we provide suggested phrases that can be used in a letter, for those who want such assistance. You may use our suggested phrases, or use your own words. Post cards and hand-written letters are good; just keep them short and courteous.
We know that electronic mail…e-mail… has become very popular, but the written form of LETTERS FOR LIFE is an important resource for the majority of people because most legislators still look to see how many letters and post cards came in to the office. They can not see how many e-mail messages are on the office computer, but it is hard to ignore physical mail.
Please remember, we depend entirely on your help and financial support, since there are no membership dues or fees. We have received just enough for this mailing, then we are again out of funds. Any donation, no matter how small, is important. Due to work load on volunteers we can not send acknowledgement for gifts less than $100, unless requested.
Sincerest Regards
